knowing things will happen, is different from seeing into the future.
somethings gone wrong within the universe which is donnie darko, the character in the film.
Jet engine is the artifact to show the tangent universe has occured.
Donnie has one choice to make, the universe has to make donnie make a choice. If donnie lives his life continiously then the cycle will always continue and no one can move on until he ends his life.
The workers are the blobs coming out of peoples chest and they direct people to what they have to do.
Frank is a person from the events caught up in all of this, so is forced to make donnie do the right thing.
Frank's eye injury is caused by donnie shooting him in the eye.
In the cinema Frank has an eye injury which is caused from events in the future that have not yet happened as he travelled back in time as he is caught up in the events.
Living dead will set a trap, which is when the characters go into Mrs.Sparrows house.
Living dead being the event happening on halloween. The costumes at the halloween party represent the living dead.
Ensurance trap which prompts donnie to do the right thing which is the death of the girl he loves.
Final chapter which is dreams allows everyone involved in donnie's life to see the future in a fractured way.
Analysis of front cover:
The film ‘Donnie Darko’ is a hybrid genres as it is a physciological thriller along with a sci-fi thriller. The reason it has connotations of a sci-fi thriller is due to the lighting and editing effects that take place. One example of this is when the main character Donnie Darko, is looking into the mirror, the effect used is that the illusion is created, that it is a porthole mirror that he can see someone from the future looking back at him. This creates great confusion to the viewer as something unnatural and unexplainable is taking place. This links into the idea of time travel taking place, which is where someone from the future comes back to the past, to give advice to someone from the past to change the events of what happens next to benefit there future.
The connotations of the thriller genre, are represented on the film case of Donnie Darko, as there is an image of the main character holding an axe. This object suggests death, intense pain, murder, violence etc. Which instantly has a negative effect on the viewer as they instantly guess that someone will be seriously injured or hurt during some stage of the film. The circle of life that is coming out of Donnie’s chest, that represents his soul being free and leading him to his next destination, is seen as a transparent mix of colours that are unnatural which represent the supernatural aspect of the film.
The film potrays great use of symbolism. One example of this is when the story of the rabbits is linked to as the story of what is happening within the film. The story of the rabbits adresses that they are hopeless,vunerable and unaware of there exsistance. Which is preety much how the characters are potrayed within the fim. Donnie makes a speach within the film which basically suggests without the rabbits the world would not be the same as it is now, they are an essential part of the food chain, without them everything would have to be carried out in a different way making serious change to the outcome of everything. This could suggest that reffering us as humans to rabbits is not such an obsurbed suggestion as if we were not alive or did not exsist in this world, then everything would not be the same. The world today as we know it, would not exsist.
