When we started designing our questionnaire, we all decided as a group we would question an equal amount of gender; being ten females and ten males. This because we wanted a blanced view.
Before we started questionning the public, we decided that we would aim our thriller opening at a target market of 15-18 year olds, as we found from secondary research that they were the population that mostly watched thriller types of films. Therefore, when deciding on who questionned, we aimed for a bigger percentage of the people we would ask that would be between that age group. However, we would also question a few people outside that age group to compare there opinions to our target market.
From the results shown it is clear to see that comedy thrillers are the main favourite of the people we questionned. However, as our thriller needs to have a disturbing essence to it, and create a tense atmosphere for the viewer, we worked towards the joint second most popular option being crime. The crime protrayed in our opening thriller will be of a capture and murder situation. Also one factor we missed of our question is religion. This will also play a big aspect in our opening of a thriller.
From the results shown it is clear to see that out of all the options on offer to choose in our questionnaire, there isn't much between the options. Its a fairly open and equal pick of which the people we questionned prefer, this could be due to personality and character choices. Including what scares and plays on the minds of certain individuals, what interests them, and what they want to see.
From this question, it is clear to see that the vast majority of people questionned think that eerie music is a typical thriller sound track, and should be played to create tension. It is closely followed by the second most popular choice being mysterious. Both options are very similar and create the same atmosphere. Therefore, for our thiller opening we need to create this image. For our opening, we took inspiration from the film 'The happening'. Our music for our thriller is a mixture of two different sound tracks coming together to create one overall sound, it also has two noise recordings of sharp beats that come at important points in our thriller opening.
The option chosen most frequently, by the people questionned was an abandoned house. Closely followed by an the woods. We choose to do our opening to a thriller in an abandoned barn, as we found the option of filming in an abandoned house was to clishe and we would has difficulties of it looking too staged and not realistic enough. We also found that lighting of where we would shoot our thriller would be a big problem, as certain shadowns and reflections could make our thriller look un-proffesional. Therefore, where we decided to shoot our thriller was in a room blocked of from sunlight which worked well for the image we were
trying to potray.
The two main options that were chosen by our people questionned were of special effects and sound effects. We already knew as a group, after filming we would do a vast amount of editing to our footage and add more than one type of sound to overall, improve the quality and standard of our thriller film. We edited our opening so that the orignal footage filmed, was made to look like it was in either CCTV style or a faded colour to represent time passing by, and to create this gloomy atmopsheric effect. We added three different types/forms of sound to create different representations of mood, and situations
changing within our storyline.
From the results of this question, its clear to see the most frequently picked option is a female victim. This is a sterotypical idea, that us as a genetation have conjured up, that in every thriller storyline the female is a victim and the attacker is a male. The two next joint, most frequently picked answer were a teenager or old person. This therefore, shows the clear understanding that the people questionned, have in mind the type of victim being a vunerable and naive person. As a group, we have chosen to stick to the storyline of a female victim and a male attacker.
It is clear to see the people questionned are not particually every day watchers of thriller. However, the most picked options are of people watching a thriller every week, or two or possibly even every month. However if we were to question how many watched other sub genres such as comedy, chic-flick, rom-com etc we might well have a different type of feedback. Therefore, this makes it essential that we produce a proffesional and intriging opening to our thriller to keep up with our current competition.
The three options chosen were Internet, Telly and Magazine. This therefore, shows that people get there source of media from these three places, and would get advertisements for up-coming movies etc. Which means, when thinking about how we could advertise our thriller opening, we should consider these methods and how broadsheet and redtop magazines were not a way our target market and people questionned got there media source from. This shows that technology today being internet and telly have taken over traditional methods such as magazines that used to be so common in olden days when these forms of media were not avaliable.
From these results its clear to see that its 50/50 whether our people questionned would or wouldn't buy a thriller film. As a group we came to a conclusion that maybe our people questionned wouldn't buy a film however, if it was on the telly or interent they might possible watch it. Therefore, meaning they still somehow could have access to a thriller film and might even possible watch one.
The answers to this questions varies between all options. However, internet telly and cinema are the most popular options for the people we questionned. This therefore, gives us as a group an idea into where we need to advertise our thriller opening for it to be discovered and research by intended target market being 15-18 year olds.
